H.P. Lovecraft day

I have decided that today is officially HP Lovecraft day. If you don't know good old HP, he was a miserable wretch of an author who died too young and was very concerned about things like Gods living at the bottom of the ocean, people breeding with giant white monkeys, tentacles galore, and other terrible things. He is also possibly the greatest short story writer of all time.

If you have never heard of him, now you have. If you don't know where to start, read the story "The Outsider" or "The Call of Cthulhu" (also a less-great Metallica instrumental).

If nothing else, you will surely agree that he is a handsome devil, offspring of giant white apes or no.

  1. Ha! It's been along time since I read HPL.
"He whose name must not be spoken" still haunts me.

  3. I will not agree that he's a handsome devil, but he does have the exact mouth that a creeping-lumbering-monster creator would have. Top five best short story writers ever. Also top 2 ickiest writers.

  4. August 20 might be a better choice for H.P. Lovecraft Day, given that it's his birthday. March 28th is a little too close to his death day (March 15th) for comfort.

Instead of "The Visitor" I'm guessing that you're referring to "The Outsider". Also, it's actually spelled "Cthulhu", not "Chthulu".

Thanks for the link to The H.P. Lovecraft Archive!
